Freedom Giveaway

Every Fourth of July, Americans celebrate their freedom with fireworks, grilled food of every kind and watermelon. Why watermelon? I have no idea, but there's always an option for homemade ice cream, too.

To celebrate, I'm giving away a $10 Amazon gift card via email for one lucky visitor who will be free to spend it however they wish. Just comment on this post about your favorite summer eats. If you're not a blog follower, sign up today!

Our giveaway winner will also be able to choose a copy of any of my current ebooks which can be checked out at my author website.

No worries if you don't win, keep reading for my homemade ice cream recipe passed down from my husband's grandmother. It's delicious and easy. A great dessert for a wonderful holiday!

Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream for Ice Cream Makers

3 eggs beat until stiff with mixer

1 cup of sugar; beat

1 large package of vanilla instant pudding; beat

1 quart of Half and Half; beat

3 tablespoons of vanilla; beat

Pour into four quart ice cream maker. Pour whole milk into mix until it reaches fill line. Freeze ice cream according to ice cream maker directions.

The Balanced Writer hopes you are having a wonderful summer. Son number three and I are featured above to remind you to have some good times this season. He recently received his scuba certification making eight dives off Key Largo. Talk about brave. I'm a proud mummy.

Take a break and do something out of the ordinary. Happy Independence Day!

I'm a sucker for a strawberry daiquiri. Non-alcoholic, few things top watermelon.

Yum! Love homemade ice cream but don't make it these days. I suppose my favorite summer treat is Aunt Jane's rhubarb pie (I am the best pie maker in Indiana). It is actually rhubarb cream pie in that it has an egg! An old Indiana recipe.

I love little new potatoes from the garden, corn on the cob, lemonade, and any side vegie from the garden. Top that off with fresh picked peaches and homemade ice cream-perfect! On the other hand, no summer get together is complete without watermelon!

Fresh veggies and fruits (especially watermelon), corn on the cob, and at the end of summer, peach dessert. Yum!

I have to go with fresh fruit! I eat myself sick with it during the summer because winter fruit just isn't the same:)

I'm pretty sure Apple Pie a la mode is right up there with potato salad, hamburgers and yes, watermelon! Happy 4th!

I have to admit that I don't think I have any particular seasonal eating habits. Ice cream is great during the summer. Other than that, I don't know. I recently discovered a great nearby place that has a delicious 6oz steak burger for less than three bucks, but I think that'll be great all year round. :)

Thanks for the giveaway! Have a great weekend and a great Fourth!

Oh, I am a potato salad girl. I love to eat it all year long, but summer potato salad always tastes the best. Yum!

My favorite summer eat is my dad's homemade butterstoch ice cream. I live in Florida, and boy is it great in the summertime to cool down with.

Thanks for this generous giveaway! I'd love to spend it on a great Summer read.
HAPPY 4th!
