When You Win a Poetry Contest...

Thank you to the Atlanta Writers Club for choosing my poem, "Angry Young Men", as the 2025 Natasha Tretheway poetry winner. This poem seeks to evoke the moments of loneliness and desperation that many boy moms feel when their babies become teens. The world is loud, society is critical and sometimes demeaning, and too many of our youth get lost. It takes a village to teach little boys how to become men, because a single light, no matter how hard she tries, cannot do it alone.

Remember, a true writing contest will be sponsored by a legitimate organization anchored in education, the arts or publishing. Look for a reputable history and previous winners. The rules and guidelines will be readily available and easy to understand and follow. There shouldn't be any pressure to purchase a membership or product, and the required personal information and fees will be reasonable. If you have to pay to play, make sure the financial risk and prizes are worth it.
