To celebrate this month's 📚 release of the new sweet💕romance collection, Wish Upon a Christmas Star, I've asked the authors what they hope for this holiday season. Check out their answers below. We'd love to hear from you, too. What's on your Christmas wish list? If you could wish upon a ⭐, what would you ask for?

Author 🖊 Allie Pleiter writes: If I could wish upon a Christmas star, I would wish for… comfort for loss.

That wasn’t the answer I would have given two weeks ago.

But this Christmas my Advent is tinted blue with the loss of a beloved dog. Bella was my writing partner, coffee bar walk buddy, company, comedy, and confidant for fourteen years. Her arrival into our family was one of those wondrous situations where it is difficult to say whether we found her, or she found us.

I consider myself a strong, stoic woman of faith. My life has included its fair share of challenges and loss. I lost my dad when I was 19, my mom in my 40’s, my mother-in-law a few years ago and my father-in-law earlier this year. All of those losses were hard, but none of them affected my daily life on the scale that losing Bella has. The house is blisteringly, breathtakingly still. Some part of me still expects to catch her out of the corner of my eye. I imagine this is just an echo of how deeply someone would feel the loss of a child or spouse.

And while the loss is still fresh and hard, I am s-l-o-w-l-y turning my focus to all the joy she brought to my life. Pets are a splendid, selfless kind of love we can all hope to emulate. Even when Bella was old and creaky—and she was very old and very creaky toward the end—she had a particular charm, a cuteness that overflowed from the inside. Even skinny and coughing, she was never an ugly duckling to me. I saw her as adorable and beautiful because I saw her with the eyes of love.

That is the truth I hope to tell is Anna’s story, The Way You Look at Me. Anna feels flawed, but a mystery man who falls into her life—quite literally—changes everything and lets her see herself in new ways.

Allie is the author of The Way You Look at Me in the Wish Upon a Christmas Star anthology. Here's a little more about it:

When Anna learns the identity of Charleston's infamous food critic, they both discover about how love reveals true beauty-inside and out. Inspired by The Ugly Duckling.
